Joseph Nathan “King” Oliver (December 19, 1881 – April 10, 1938) is without a doubt one of the major figures of early jazz. Born in Abend, Louisiana and raised in New Orleans, he quickly played with the best musicians of the time. He is often associated with the father figure who propelled the young Louis Armstrong, but he is above all an inventive cornet player and a unique bandleader. His Creole Jazz band was arguably the best band in the young history of jazz.

After the end of the Creole Jazz band, King Oliver formed the Dixie Syncopators. You will find eleven arrangements of this band including Dead Man Blues, Sugar Foot Stomp, Someday Sweetheart.
